How to use the age calculator
- Enter the date of birth.
- Leave the second date as today to see your age now, or change it to find an age on any past or future date, for example on a wedding day or at retirement.
- Read your exact age in years, months and days, plus the totals in months, weeks, days and hours.
How exact age is calculated
We count whole years first, then whole months, then the remaining days. If the day of the month hasn't come round yet, we borrow the days from the previous month, which is exactly how you would work it out on a calendar. That means the result is right across leap years and months of different lengths.
People born on 29 February celebrate on 28 February or 1 March in years that aren't leap years. We count the next birthday as 1 March in those years, which is when the person legally turns a year older in many countries.
Fun facts the calculator shows
- Days lived: a 30 year old has lived about 10,950 days.
- Day of the week you were born: handy for the old rhyme about Monday's child.
- Star sign: worked out from the Western zodiac dates.
